"Yes, I am", Phoenix smiled warmly as he helped his somewhat distressed pet put everything back as to show the niffler he didn't want to break its trust. "And yeh, it should be kept a secret. It's actually downright a law of our kind. Most people wouldn't believe me anyway so no I don't go around telling people. Although sometimes I like to get a bit creative with breaking that law, but only in quite minor ways for I don't want too much trouble," he spoke, glancing at the younger boy. Young thoygh they both were Phoenix could tell this child wasn't one of those who accepted everything and anything at face value and he respected such healthy mind-set.
"But the thing is, you're not a random person. You're a wizard too, though as you seem to not be aware of it your parents are likely muggles... eh, that's what we call people who aren't wizards or witches," he continued and added, now finished returning the goods into the niffler's pouch and looking at the boy, "I know you are because you can see Gibson's true form. My dad put a spell on him so that to a muggle it looks just like a normal mole."
Phoenix was very aware how much this sounded like an attempt to make a fool out of a younger child, but then again he himself was still clearly a little kid too so he hoped him not being a teen yet would make this less suspicious in those terms.
"You seem to be in primary school so your magical power should have shown by now. Think back, there must have been times when something unexplainable but useful for you happened when you were deeply angry, frightened or confused. We children can't control our powers yet and it often leads to accidental spell casting when feeling one of those three emotions very strongly. For example... When I was seven and absolutely certain that there was a monster under my bed, like, I was sure it would eat me if I fell asleep, suddenly the space under my bed was filled with hardened concrete which would have trapped or killed anything under there."
He supposed he'd hoped there'd be no room for monsters and that they couldn't get out as he was sure they were already there. So he'd conjured up something he'd heard things been trapped in before, but even now he could not consciously do conjuration for a few years still as he had not even begun to learn basic transfiguration much less its conjuration branch.
