Cola-tölkki sihisi auki mutta Jacob oli liian keskittynyt kuuntelemaan ja tarkkailemaan tyttöä juodakseen siitä. Vaikutti siltä että tytön äidillä oli ongelmia lapsensa lähtökohtien käsittelyssä siinä missä sellaisen jo hyväksyneellekin olisi vaikeaa nostaa moinen historia esiin, etenkin teini-ikäiselle joten Jacob piti täysin mahdollisena että nainen olisi valinnut tuollaisen polun. Mutta koska hänellä ei ollut minkäänlaista todellista pohjaa mielipiteilleen mies ei vastannut kysymykseen muutoin kuin pienellä olkien kohotuksella ja vaikea-sanoa -ilmeellä samalla kun jatkoi aktiivista kuuntelua. Effien lopetettua Jacob pohti hetken.
"Entä adoptio-isäsi? Tai isovanhempasi? Tietävätkö he tästä mitään?"
