RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 01-12-2020 "No," Phoenix replied, and then perked up remembering that he had his wand with him. Sometimes he forgot to pack it or move it to whatever bag he took for the day but today he had taken the same backbag as the last time he was out. "Well, Sam... When you think of magic, what does it look like? I mean, what would you need to see to believe it's real?" he asked, scratching Gibsons head but looking at Sam. Phoenix was doubtful he could perform whatever that might be, but perhaps he could. At least his parents or grandfather or great-uncle could if he managed to get one of them here another day. He had only muggle friends in this town so their families surely couldn't help. From the corner of his eye he noticed that several meters away some other children were stopping to take a long look at Gibson but their parents ushered them forward, not wanting them to go pet something so odd as a mole. Phoenix was very glad about this as he wasn't planning to cast any spells in front of a whole group of muggles. He didn't like to cause trouble in such direct and open way, even though he did not have the Trace on him as he wasn't a Hogwarts student. RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 01-12-2020 What did magic look like? That was a good question. What would convince him for sure? Also not sure. This wasn't something he ever really thought about, magic was something from fairy tales. "Uh... I guess some levitating objects? There is nothing to hang things from..." he said after some amount of thinking. Of course, there were things like a 20 meters tall flaming owl that shoot lasers from its eyes but somehow that sounded a bit like overkill. Not to mention not exactly stealthy. "Yeah, I think that could do it. Make something fly in the air," he suggested. RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 01-20-2020 "Ooh, I can do that!" Phoenix got excited, dug into his backbag and pulled out his wand. 13 inch long, pretty one made of English oak and finished with some red mahongany skin. The boy laid it on the grass for a moment so he could dig out several niffler treats from his jeans pocket. Ones that were Gibson's absolute favourites, ones he believed the niffler might wish to live on. Shortening Gibson's leash so it could not get to the treats whilst they were on the ground, he then picked up his wand. "This levitation charm is one of those I've practised the most, but I have only been practising spells for a couple of months now so I'll try with very light objects," he explained as he prepared to focus on his intent, control his emotions and channeling his powers. Excited Gibson was stretching its front paws towards the treats and pulling on the harness. "Wingardium leviosa," he said, remembering to put emphasis on the correct letters whilst flicking the wand slightly. The small pile of little round treats lifted from the ground, slightly separating from each other. This version of the charm was the best because one could also guide the levitating object through the air unlike with a lesser version that would only have them float in mid-air or hover briefly. Phoenix guided them higher and loosened Gibson's leash. The boy made the treats whirl around provoking the niffler to jump up at them, making excited sounds, something between purring and squueling. It couldn't quite reach them as its body wasn't designed to jump very high. "Try again, mate!" Phoenix encouraged, "You need to exercise a bit, work for these." He then brought them a little bit lower and let the furball reach one. Gibson, all fluffed up from excitement, happily munched on his catch. RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 02-04-2020 Sam wasn't quite sure if he was more skeptical or curious. He fully expected some fort of excuse from the elder kid but instead, he was met with an exciting agreement. The young boy watched as his new friend pulled out a wand and some exposition. At this point, Sam was definitely more curious than the other thing. Unconsciously holding his breath he watched him speaking something that sounded Latin and then? Whoa... It wasn't every day when your word got pretty much flipped on its head. Sam always wanted to believe in things like this, what kid didn't? But actually seeing something like it right in front of his eyes was still hard to believe. His inner skeptic was already thinking of something to disprove what was quite obviously happening! "Ok, I... uh..." he stopped to collect his thoughts a little. "What does it mean?" RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 02-05-2020 "It means that there's magic in the world and you're a part of it. As you didn't know it, you can see and do things your parents probably can't," Phoenix explained, trying to decide where to start. Gibson jumped for another treat, caught one and munched away happily. "My father's family tree is full of witches and wizards, we are what they call 'pure-blood'. But my dad says there really isn't such a thing, that all wizarding families have at least one non-magical member somewhere in there. That some snobby people just choose to pretend theirs don't. My mum is a muggle-born, meaning she is the first magical person in her whole family history like I think you are. They both attended Hogwarts which is a school for our kind where we learn magical subjects such as charms and potion making and broom flying," the boy glanced at Sam, a happy smile on his face. "There's normal english, math and science too but most subjects are magic related. They will keep me home, attending normal state school and home schooling me in magic on weekends. See, Hogwarts is a boarding school and all the way in Scotland. I think most people don't send their kids there, if they can arrange home schooling. " He let the rest of the snacks rain on the niffler made excited sounds and quickly began to gather them underneath him so as not to lose any. RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 02-11-2020 "I am sure my dad isn't one for sure, but I've never met my mum so... I suppose she might've been one?" that thought was an interesting one but also it reminded him of the blank spot in his life which was very painful every time. "OK, ok... slow down a little please," the young boy actually chuckled a little. It was a bit of magic overload all of a sudden. He had to replay the information in his mind to get it sorted. "Uh... well I suppose since my dad is... non-magical I seriously doubt I will visit this school of yours," he just learned he might be a wizard (although the thought was still setting in) yet he could never learn magic? That was actually a bit tragic. "So what happens to wizards like me? I mean if I even am one..." he still didn't buy that though he did like the idea very, very much. RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 02-13-2020 "Oh, don't worry. It's for all magical children of Great-Britain. If you were born somewhere in here your name is already written down in their books reserving you axplace there, and you will get an invitation letter in the summer of the year you turn eleven or twelve. That is if your mum is a witch because then they think you know all about it. If both your parents are non-magical then someone from the school will visit your home to invite you in person because they assume you don't know about magic," Phoenix explained. "You'll definitely get in if your dad lets you. What does he think about magic? My family could show you the hidden parts of London for starters if you can get him to agree," he promised, put his wand on the lawn right next to him and picked Gibson up to cuddle with it against his chest, gently scratching its cheek as it was finishing off the last treat. Phoenix's voice was full of hope, it was so rare to get a chance to introduce his world to someone who knew nothing about it. In fact, this was the first in his eleven years of life, at least that he could remember and have ability to do something. RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 02-16-2020 "Well, my mother left... I have no memories of her so I wouldn't know," he said. If these wizards really wrote things to their books as soon as a child was born they might've missed this detail. But Sam wouldn't know since this magical world was something he didn't entirely believe it. "And I have no idea if my father knows about magic. He certainly never told me anything about it. But I would bet he has no idea," his dad was a terrible lier! He would probably reveal it a long time ago. "Hidden parts of London? Like some sort of magical hidden parts? Darn, I would love to see that," too bad dad wouldn't let him go. RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 02-19-2020 "Yep, for one we have our own shopping areas here full of little shops and services dedicated to magic stuff. The most popular one is called Diagon Alley and is in the central London. It would be a great place to start," Phoenix sounded more and more excited a he spoke. But then he thought that if Sam's dad didn't know about magic or was opposed to it, it wouldn't be a good idea to take him that deep into the hidden society right away. Then he gasped lightly, and added, "Actually, my mum owns a magic shop in central London on Charing Cross Road. It's not hidden and is for both muggles and wizardkind because it's under our Ministry's regulations and sells only books and things that aren't dangerous in non-magical hands. Your dad may have noticed it, it's called Moody Broomstick. We could start from there and then move on to the hidden area that is right across the street. Do you think your dad would take you to my mum's shop or let you come with us?" His own parents certainly wouldn't let him go somewhere with people they haven't even met but they would accompany him to some places he really wanted to go. Phoenix just hoped Sam's dad wasn't the most uptight kind of a muggle that he had sometimes met but would amuse his child by taking him to places even if he thought them dumb or something. "Excuse me," a young man's voice came from a few feet behind Sam when Phoenix had barely finished talking. Phoenix looked up, startled by how important the man looked in a grey suit and a tie and hair drowning in styling gel. For a moment he thought this was some Ministry employee about to tell him off for talking about these things with someone who sounded like a muggle who didn't know. That would have been extremely unlucky indeed, but then the boy registered the man's friendly tone and expression that looked curious and not cross. "Where did you buy that mole? My son wants a pet that no one of his friends have and I can't find anything special enough in pet shops." Phoenix just stared for a while, first thinking how this man looked and sounded exactly like a certain type of a parent and then racking his brain for a good answer. Usually he just said that he didn't buy Gibson but brought him home from a camping trip a few years ago after finding him orphaned as a bsby. But this time he didn't want to risk wild animals getting torn from their natural habitat and given to some kid that might not even care for it properly. "Umm... From America," he then said, quite convinceingly but added some partly true information in an effort to make it more so as he didn't want to seem rude by obviously lying to someone who was just asking an innocent question. "My dad brought him for me a couple of years ago, so I can't really remember from where exactly." He began to doubt if this actually saved any wild moles. But even if this man was a globe trotting business man or something, he would surely have to search for a while to find a mole for sale, perhaps even in America. Perhaps long enough to give up and get his son something else. [The man is a random NPC I improvised just now so feel free to write him if you want.] RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 03-10-2020 Sam was listening about this new world he had no idea existed. The one part of him who wanted to believe this all was winning overwhelmingly right now. And he wanted to see all that - not only would it be irrefutable proof of this magical world, but it would also be incredibly interesting! "I would really want to see all that, but my father won't let me go... and I am not sure if "Hey dad, come with me with this random stranger kid I met" would work either," or at least he thought it probably wouldn't. Before he could say anything else some person approached them asking his new friend about his little mole friend. Sam felt a bit silent. This dialogue didn't include him and he was always a bit quiet among strangers. Yet he felt he should at least try to help his friend in some way yet no ideas were coming... ((Nah, thanks)) |
