RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 09-02-2019 A burst of excitement went through Phoenix when it became certain that this boy did not know his true nature. Phoenix had always wanted to reveal. magic's existance to a muggle or few but had too much respect for the law to actually do so. He somewhat understood the danger, too, having learned a little bit about the witch trials of the past centuries in school. the primary school history books did not go deep into the matter but he was meaning to borrow some books from the library, one of these days. Though it wouldn't be quite the same to reveal magic to a muggle-born whose muggle parents would find out about it later anyway, this was still better than nothing. Phoenix looked at the boy for a moment, considering what to do. He looked young enough to possibly believe everything and anything he was told but Phoenix wanted to show him. "I think most people like us have an owl or few. You should get one, too if you have large enough rear yard to build a very large gage. But then again if your dad doesn't have time to take care of any pet he certainly wouldn't of an owl..." Phoenix pondered first. Animal wellfare was also close to his heart, as close as the animals themselves. His father was way too busy for full time care of pets too as was his mother, but they had more family to help them if needed, whilst all their pets were fine for the eight or so hours everyone was out at work or school. "So perhaps it's not a good choice for you yet. Cats are low maintanance so I would say you should be fine with one. But really, you don't even know how many exciting options you have," he continued, now smiling wide and Gibson having finished the treat started climbing down on him, heading towards his jeans side pocket. "See, some animals have magicabilities," Phoenix looked at the boy with an excited twinkle in his eyes, grabbed Gibson and sat down on the lawn where it would be easier to hold the niffler as it would not like what he was about to do. "A niffler is one of the lesser examples but he has one or two. See this little pouch he has on his tummy? What do you think is the biggest thing that could fit in there?" he said, stretching it a little bit. It was definitely evidence that even though it didn't actually have a bill but a snout looking like one, the niffler was related to some australian animals as well as to a mole. Gibson struggled a little as he sensed his guardian was about to raid his treasures. But Phoenix held on tight, both to the leash and the niffler. Though the pouch was completely flat making it look empty, Phoenix knew that at any given time there were a large number of all kinds of shiny items to be found. RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 09-11-2019 Sam wasn't quite sure where this was going. After all, he had no idea that there was a whole new world for him to explore. Yet he still had no idea why an owl would make a good pet. The phrase "people like us" was puzzling him even more since he wasn't even sure if he even introduced himself so what they could have in common? "I don't see it. You can pet a cat... but owl? Aren't they aggressive? Hissing at people... eating live mice..." he couldn't feed a living animal to another. His young and innocent soul would probably break by doing that. But there probably were many animals he never considered for pets... or apparently didn't even know - like nifflers. While Sam had no idea about the magical world he wasn't stupid and it was becoming obvious, that his new friend was trying to get somewhere. There had to be some point to all this buildup and Sam was curious enough to bite. Especially since it seemed it had something to do with the niffler and his pouch. "Magic abilities eh? Ok... that I want to see," Sam could appreciate a good trick so why not. "What could fit in there? Nothing big... some coins perhaps?" he tried to guess something, hoping that it will be something to blow his mind. RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 09-29-2019 "It's ok, Gibson, I'll put it all back," Phoenix spoke calmly as he held the struggling niffler in his lap and dug into the pouch. "I'm sure there arexseveral coins too, but I think we cn find much more than that," he said, already his hand had sunk much deeper than it should be able to, past the wrist and kept digging deeper even though the outside of the pouch appeared as if he was just opening it a little bit. Phoenix felt up everything he could reach until he found something large enough. "Ah, mum has been looking for this," he stated as he pulled out a well polished antique jewelry box which width was half the height as the niffler. It was a family heirloom from the late 19th century and his mother was sure she'd kept it in a locked drawer. The boy tried to open the box but it remained locked. "Good, I don't have to fish out her jewelry seperately," he sighed. "See, nifflers love shiny and glittering stuff. They can actually smell gold even if it is underground, and their pouches fit at least two items of this size before it shows at all and much more smaller stuff before it overflows," he explained. "We can't even have a Christmas tree indoors. We always set it on our patio in our rear yard. " RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 10-19-2019 Sam has seen some strange things in the past and he always knew there were things beyond what he could understand. But what he just saw happening right in front of his eyes easily took the cake. There was no way the box could fit in that pouch and yet the other boy appeared like this was completely obvious. To be perfectly honest Sam had no idea how to react. How could he react to something that was impossible... yet right in front of him. "Eh... I mean.... how... what?" was the best he could come up with at the moment. ¨ "I don't understand..." he finally gave up on coming up with the answer himself. It had to be some trick. Sam certainly looked a bit dumbfounded. "Is that some sort of magic trick?" some trickery perhaps? RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 10-21-2019 "Not a trick. Just magic," Phoenix said with a small smirk on his face. "Theres a lot more in here," he added and dug up several handfuls of somewhat shiny coins, a well polished silver tea spoon, shreds of tin foil paper, and other shiny stuff. Finally Gibson had enough and threw himself on the pile of his treasures and partly on the jewelery box, making distressed chattering sounds and looking suspiciously at the stranger and Phoenix in turn. "It's okay, boy, no one's taking them away," Phoenix spoke to it calmly, slightly scratching the top of its head and then turned his attention to the other boy again, now with all serious expression again. "This pouch is natural state to a niffler, but we can do the same to any bag or a pocket or any space really, like a tent or a room. Well, not you or I yet but teenagers and grown-ups can. See, we are wizards." he finally revealed and paused to let this sink in and see how the boy would take it. RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 11-03-2019 Yeah, right... just magic. It wasn't something that Sam could accept easily. But since the other boy easily pulled out a bunch of other stuff from a confined space that just couldn't fit them... plus the strange animal he's never heard about before. It was a headscratcher. And poor Sam really didn't know what to think about that. The evidence was all there but... magic? "Yeah... uh... right," was the best answer the puzzled youth could muster at the moment. His confusion didn't get any better when his new friend spelled it for him quite literally - wizards. But when he said "we" he probably meant his family? Or something like that? "Uh... good for you?" he still wasn't quite all there. But Sam wasn't a stupid kid and the shock quickly left for the more... imaginative part of his brain. "So you are a wizard with a magical pet? Do you tell that to random people often? It... kind of seems like something you should keep secret, isn't it?" he asked. RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 11-12-2019 "Yes, I am", Phoenix smiled warmly as he helped his somewhat distressed pet put everything back as to show the niffler he didn't want to break its trust. "And yeh, it should be kept a secret. It's actually downright a law of our kind. Most people wouldn't believe me anyway so no I don't go around telling people. Although sometimes I like to get a bit creative with breaking that law, but only in quite minor ways for I don't want too much trouble," he spoke, glancing at the younger boy. Young thoygh they both were Phoenix could tell this child wasn't one of those who accepted everything and anything at face value and he respected such healthy mind-set. "But the thing is, you're not a random person. You're a wizard too, though as you seem to not be aware of it your parents are likely muggles... eh, that's what we call people who aren't wizards or witches," he continued and added, now finished returning the goods into the niffler's pouch and looking at the boy, "I know you are because you can see Gibson's true form. My dad put a spell on him so that to a muggle it looks just like a normal mole." Phoenix was very aware how much this sounded like an attempt to make a fool out of a younger child, but then again he himself was still clearly a little kid too so he hoped him not being a teen yet would make this less suspicious in those terms. "You seem to be in primary school so your magical power should have shown by now. Think back, there must have been times when something unexplainable but useful for you happened when you were deeply angry, frightened or confused. We children can't control our powers yet and it often leads to accidental spell casting when feeling one of those three emotions very strongly. For example... When I was seven and absolutely certain that there was a monster under my bed, like, I was sure it would eat me if I fell asleep, suddenly the space under my bed was filled with hardened concrete which would have trapped or killed anything under there." He supposed he'd hoped there'd be no room for monsters and that they couldn't get out as he was sure they were already there. So he'd conjured up something he'd heard things been trapped in before, but even now he could not consciously do conjuration for a few years still as he had not even begun to learn basic transfiguration much less its conjuration branch. RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 11-28-2019 Sam was fairly impressed so far. He had trouble believing the elder boy but the story was interesting and... well he hated to admit it even to himself but it was kind of plausible. Especially thanks to the magic pet. If that was a trick Sam had absolutely no idea how it was done. The story had secrets and suspense and everything! Sam loved that. But when he learned that he himself was a wizard it god suddenly a bit weird. He would normally shrug it off as nonsense but... it would explain why he never heard of anything like a "niffler" and why nobody was paying attention to this weird animal. Not to mention... "Uh..." There were... some unusual things that happened to him and he just shrugged as a weird trick of light or coincidence or something like that. Yet right now he was willing to believe that he has done that by accident. Some of these felt like that. "Uh..." he repeated. Sam wasn't quite willing to accept that as fact though it was quite obvious he was thinking about it. The more he thought about it it made some sense but it also warped his entire world upside down and he wasn't quite ready to accept that. "Uh... y...yeah well uh... that is a good story, really..." he finally put together a more or less coherent sentence. RE: A whole new world - Phoenix Levon Scamander - 12-18-2019 The smile brightened on his face as Phoenix observed the situation and saw he was taking tiny steps towards convinsing this muggle-born of this whole new world. But he suspected it would require more than words and Gibson could not help any further. The niffler, having the treasures sacurely in his pouch again, relaxed again and began climbing on his young guardian. "What's your name? Mine is Phoenix Scamander," he asked, thinking that perhaps if they became more familiar with each other it would be easier to handle such a subject matter. Gibson hurried over to Sam, sniffing around the boy's hands but Phoenix held the leash short so the niffler could not climb on him but at most place front paws on his knee. RE: A whole new world - Samuel Connor Rees - 01-11-2020 Talking about names helped Sam return back to reality. And he was subconsciously grateful for that. "Oh, hey Phoenix, I am Sam. Well, you know... Samuel Rees but Sam is fine," oh... nicely said Sam! That sounded very naturally! "I am sorry little fella, I have nothing else for you..." he said to the cute little creature that was trying to get to him. It was a bit ironic since this was obviously a magical creature yet it somehow grounded him back in reality. "You are not joking, are you?" he asked after a moment. |
